Runners and walkers braved the bitter arctic conditions on Saturday, March 11th to participate in the 1st Annual St. John School Shamrock Run! After a prayer from Mother Elaine Moorcroft, the kid’s Fun Run kicked off at 8.30am with an enthusiastic and smiling group of kids, despite a temperature of 17 degrees with wind chills below zero. Eager supporters cheered them on as they ran the ½ mile course. This paved the way for the 5K event at 9am which led runners blustering from Fort Saybrook and through the scenic North Cove area of Old Saybrook.
Many runners got in the Irish spirit as they wore green or shamrock attire. The top male competitor, William Curran, was home in less than 20 minutes to cheers and applauses of waiting spectators. Not far behind him was Maggie Fisher, the first place female finisher. For a full listing of the results please click here.
The Shamrock Run committee extends a huge thanks to the sponsors of the event, including Atlantis Building Company, Hope and Stetson, and Paul Loomis Maintenance and Services. We urge you to support them with your business when given a choice. We appreciate all the support from the many organizations, participants, and fans of the Shamrock Run. We are very grateful to you! All proceeds of the event will benefit St. John School.
We look forward to next year’s Shamrock Run. Slainte!
