St. John School brings Christ to the Torchlight Parade

Dec 14 2017
It was a cold and snowy night and Old Saybrook’s Main Street was lined with excited families waiting for the parade to begin.  There were talented marching fife and drum corps from all over the state.  The boy scout and girl scout troops, and our hard working firefighters and police were proudly marching and singing Christmas carols.  The Christmas lights were twinkling everywhere.  None were quite as bright as the ones on St. John School and Knights of Columbus wonderful float!  This year, it was suggested that St. John School have a float with students portraying the manger scene.    In order to make it a special float, several of our own Father Hussion Council knights built an incredible wood manger.  It was festooned with beautiful lights and the children from St. Johns.  The banner on the side of the float proclaimed, “Keep Christ in Christmas”.  As they passed by the church, waving and singing “Oh, Come all ye Faithful”, we all were reminded of the reason for the season.   For Torchlight parades to come, St. John School will celebrate with our manger float, reminding all who come that Jesus Christ is born!
