Mother Elaine Announces New Assessment Testing - NWEA MAP Growth Test

Apr 5 2019
Dear Parents

As you know our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are piloting the MAP Growth Tests this spring in place of the Iowa tests. Next year, the diocese hopes that all students in grades 1-8 will be taking the MAP Growth tests three times a year in the fall, winter and spring.

MAP Growth is a computer adaptive test created by NWEA that kids take two to three times per school year. Because we are just piloting the program the 6, 7 and 8th graders will just take the test this spring. The results will provide teachers and administrators with information to help us deliver appropriate content for each student and determine each student's academic growth over time.

The students know that they cannot fail the test, that the tests do not affect their grade, that they cannot study for the tests, and that there may be glitches with this new program. The glitches we have run into so far are not the fault of anyone here at St. John School but at the diocesan end.

I am grateful for your patience with this new endeavor and if you have any further questions please feel free to contact me. You may also look at the NWEA website for more information.

God bless you-
