This year, St. John School celebrated New England Catholic School’s Week the week of November 4th. The theme, “Living in Harmony with God’s Creation” created the backdrop for many of the events that took place. As in the past, each day students participated in events, many along with their buddies from the “Buddy Program” to showcase who we are as a school, as a grade and individually as disciples of Christ.
Some highlights of the week included “Sharing Our Knowledge of God” - the Grade 8 students teaching religion class to the other grades or the opening prayer service which also included Old Saybrook First Selectman, Mr. Fortuna. Students in all grades got together with their buddies to participate in murals and banners representing the seven days of creation which were displayed in the gymnasium. In addition, they worked together in collaboration on STREAM/STEM activities.
On the last day, visitors and students got to tour patriotic student displays in the gym which represented ‘Celebrate God’s Giftt: America”. Mother Elaine subsequently presented these students with a participation certificate for their efforst. The event concluded on Friday with the “Blessing of the Animals” by Fr. Martin.
